Pascale Bouchard paints with fire. The Québec-based artist heats pigmented beeswax and fuses it to canvas layer by layer, building texture and luminous color that traditional paint cannot replicate. Her solo exhibition, Féminin Pluriel, is on view at Reeves-Reed Arboretum's Wisner House through Oct. 31, with a live technique demonstration planned for this fall.

More than 300 guests got a first look at the show during the arboretum's ART in the Garden fundraiser on Friday, May 29, according to Union News Daily. The gallery opened to the public June 2.

Bouchard's encaustic works explore transformation, memory and the feminine through floral imagery and organic forms. Beyond the paintings, a curated selection of artist-designed objects and garments inspired by the series is available for purchase. Bouchard is donating 30% of all sales to the arboretum, a 13.5-acre nonprofit public garden at 165 Hobart Ave. that is the only arboretum in Union County.

Executive Director Jackie Kondel told Union News Daily in a July 6 article about the fundraiser that ART in the Garden "plays a vital role in sustaining our mission to engage, educate and enrich all who pass through our gates."

The arboretum posted a video on Instagram showing Bouchard at work, describing the ancient technique as producing rich texture, luminous color and depth that cannot be replicated with traditional paint.
