The Franklin Elementary School PTO is recruiting volunteers to water the school garden at 136 Blackburn Road in Summit throughout the summer break.
Principal Jenna Colineri and the PTO posted the call on the organization's website in June, asking families and neighbors to claim flexible daytime shifts. Volunteers can show up any time during the day; the school's custodial staff covers evenings.
Families may sign up for more than one day. As a thank-you, volunteers are welcome to harvest and take home any ripe crops they find during their shift.
The PTO also asked helpers to snap a photo and email it to Colineri so the school can share images of the community pitching in.
The volunteer window runs through the summer, with the first day of school set for Tuesday, September 8. Sign up at franklinparents.com or email [email protected].
