New Providence's annual street fair returns Sunday, Oct. 25, under a new name: Pioneer Day.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Springfield Avenue between South Street and Gales Drive. New Providence Business is presenting the fair, as first reported by Patch.
The former New Providence Street Fair has been rebranded with family-friendly additions. According to the borough's event listing, organizers say much of the fair will feel familiar, but with new children's zones and what the borough describes as a greater New Providence presence throughout the event.
Craft vendors, a beer garden, food, live music and children's rides fill out the day's lineup. Pets are welcome.
Springfield Avenue will be closed to traffic between South Street and Gales Drive for the fair. The stretch covers several blocks of New Providence's downtown commercial corridor, giving vendors and attendees room to spread out.
Pioneer Day marks a deliberate shift in branding for the borough's signature fall gathering. The borough and New Providence Business have not publicly detailed what prompted the name change or what "a greater New Providence presence" will look like in practice. The borough listed the event under the title "NPBiz Pioneer Day" on its official calendar, while Patch and other materials use simply "Pioneer Day."
