New Providence residents can drop off gently used sports equipment at the borough's DPW Recycling Center on scheduled Saturdays rather than sending it to a landfill.

The borough has contracted with GearGive, a company that collects and recycles used sports gear, according to a civic alert posted on the borough's website. Drop-offs are accepted on the first and third Saturdays of each month between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Gear must be in good condition.

The borough first posted the program on July 21, 2026, and reposted the alert on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

GearGive, led by founder and president Max Levitt, provides collection bins and handles logistics for municipalities. The company issues a check based on the resale value of items collected, and that money can go to schools, youth programs and nonprofits chosen by the organizer, according to GearGive's website.

The borough's alert does not list which types of equipment are accepted or the recycling center's street address. Residents can visit geargive.com for accepted items or newprov.us for location details.
