New Providence's public health nurse will bring flu and COVID-19 vaccines directly to homebound residents who cannot travel to a pharmacy or clinic.
The Borough of New Providence posted an alert on its website on Friday, Oct. 9, announcing the service. Residents or caregivers can call 908-743-1049 to schedule an in-home appointment.
The borough did not specify cost, available vaccine formulations, or an end date for the service. The same phone line has served as the borough's public health contact since at least May 2016, according to a borough newsletter from that month.
Caregivers can call too. The borough's alert noted that family members or others who look after a homebound person can arrange the visit on that person's behalf.
New Providence's Board of Health operates under the borough government. Residents with questions can also reach the public health nurse by email at [email protected], according to a May 2024 borough newsletter. The borough did not name the nurse staffing the program.
The DeCorso Community Center, at 15 East Fourth St., can be reached at 908-665-0046 for other senior services in New Providence.
