New Providence Presbyterian Church will open a free, 13-week grief support group on Monday, Sept. 14, for anyone coping with the death of a loved one.

The group, called GriefShare, meets every Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the church's Wenman Room at 1307 Springfield Ave. Sessions run through Monday, Dec. 7.

Each week begins with a video featuring grief counselors, followed by group conversation. GriefShare is a national program founded in 1993 and rooted in a Christian framework, though an independent review describes it as accessible to participants of various backgrounds. An optional workbook costs $25, according to that review. The church's own event listing does not mention a workbook fee.
