New Providence beat Voorhees 27-7 on Friday, Sept. 4, stretching the Pioneers' Big Central Conference winning streak to 14 games. That is the longest active run in the league.
Quarterback Kevin Reilly finished 13-of-18 for 210 yards and three touchdowns. He added 58 rushing yards and a fourth score on the ground, according to MyCentralJersey.
Quentin Moore, Michael Schmidt and William Hobbs each caught a touchdown pass. On defense, Aidan Griz recorded two sacks and Martt Naujokas grabbed an interception.
The 14-game streak includes New Providence's last five Big Central wins in 2024, all eight conference victories in 2025 and the opener against Voorhees. Central Jersey Sports Radio noted the milestone came the same weekend two other long streaks fell.
Bernards lost its 32-game Big Central run to Cranford, 31-24. Manville's 12-game streak ended in an 18-21 loss to Brearley.
New Providence entered the season ranked in the Big Central's top five and 48th statewide in New Jersey's Strength Index power rankings. The Pioneers compete in the Patriot Silver Division alongside Perth Amboy and Spotswood for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
Rahway upsets Summit at Madden Field
Summit's 2026 season hit an early wall Saturday, Sept. 5, when Rahway pulled away for a 21-10 upset win at Madden Field.
The Hilltoppers entered the year ranked No. 8 in the Big Central after going 9-3 and reaching the North 2, Group 3 final in 2025. Rahway jumped to a 14-0 lead before Summit closed the gap to four points.
Rahway's defense locked down from there, sealing the win and improving head coach Brian Russo's squad to 2-0. Rahway's next game is scheduled at Woodbridge.
Governor Livingston falls to Monroe
Governor Livingston lost to Monroe 28-7 on Saturday, Sept. 5. Monroe's Xavier Wilson broke two long touchdown runs to power the win.
The Highlanders had opened the season with a 40-27 victory over Jonathan Dayton on Friday, Aug. 28. That was Governor Livingston's first season-opening win in five years. The Highlanders now stand at 1-1.
