New Providence owns the longest active winning streak in the Big Central Conference after rolling to a 27-7 season-opening win over Voorhees on Thursday, Sept. 3.
The victory pushed the Pioneers' league streak to 15 games, a run spanning three seasons dating to 2024. It also marked the first win for first-year head coach Anthony Conzentino, who took over for Chet Parlavecchio Jr. Parlavecchio left to become the defensive coordinator at Delbarton, according to CJ Sports Radio.
The promotion was a natural fit. Conzentino spent the previous five seasons as New Providence's running backs and linebackers coach under Parlavecchio, NJ.com reported. The Pioneers went 10-1 in 2025 and reached the North 2, Group 2 sectional final in both 2024 and 2025, losing to Cedar Grove each time.
New Providence moved to the top of the conference streak list after Bernards saw its 32-game BCC run snapped by Cranford, 31-24, on Saturday, Sept. 5. Manville lost its 12-game streak at Brearley, 21-18, the same day. The next-closest active run now belongs to St. Joseph-Metuchen at nine. The all-time conference record is 35, set by St. Thomas Aquinas.
Senior quarterback Kevin Reilly picked up where he left off. He completed 10 of 14 passes for 200 yards, per TAPinto, and rushed for a team-high 48 yards on 13 carries. Reilly scored the game's first touchdown on a 1-yard run, then threw second-half scoring passes to William Hobbs (23 yards), Quentin Moore (37 yards) and Michael Schmidt (6 yards).
"Something was working, we just needed it to click a little bit more in the second half, and, honestly, I just let Kevin do his thing throwing the ball," Conzentino told TAPinto after the game.
Conzentino also credited defensive coordinator Mike Alleman and a unit that held Voorhees in check all night. Linebacker Marty Naujokas grabbed an interception, and lineman Bobby DiQuollo, along with linebackers Charlie Maneely and Nate Mooney, drew praise from the coaching staff.
New Providence visits A.L. Johnson in Clark on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. Johnson, under its own new head coach Mike Ryan, enters at 0-1 after a 34-33 loss to Delaware Valley on Thursday, Sept. 3.
