Through four games, Bernknopf had thrown for 743 yards and 13 touchdowns, while running back Tyler Fuscaldo had rushed for 502 yards and six scores, per NJ.com's stat leaders.
The Pioneers' defense answered.

Johnson (27-20), Metuchen (34-3), Roselle (48-0) and now Dayton.

Dayton, classified in North, Group 1, dropped to 4-2 with the loss. The Bulldogs still have games remaining against Highland Park, Manville and South River.
