New Providence families face a short school week, with all district buildings closing Thursday, Nov. 5, and Friday, Nov. 6, for the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) Convention.
Wednesday, Nov. 4, is the last of three early-dismissal days for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. The district scheduled early dismissals Nov. 2 through Nov. 4 for parent conferences, according to the board-approved 2026–27 school calendar. Evening conferences began at 6 p.m. on Nov. 2. Middle and high school students are not affected by the early dismissals.
The two-day NJEA closure applies to every school in the district. The convention draws educators from across New Jersey to the Atlantic City Convention Center each year. Patch first reported the schedule details for New Providence families.
Thanksgiving break ahead
The district calendar lists another early dismissal on Wednesday, Nov. 25, for all students. Schools close Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27, for Thanksgiving.
The New Providence Board of Education approved the 2026–27 calendar at its Feb. 20, 2025, meeting. Families can view the full schedule on the district's calendar page.
The next regular school day after the NJEA break is Monday, Nov. 9.
