The emergency department that treats about 36,000 patients a year at Overlook Medical Center's Union Campus has earned its sixth consecutive ENA Lantern Award, making it the only ER in the world to win the designation in every cycle since the program launched in 2011.

The Emergency Nurses Association announced the award on Monday, July 27, recognizing the 23-bed facility for sustained excellence in innovation, evidence-based practice, and patient care. The award is given in three-year cycles.

Overlook Medical Center is headquartered in Summit, but the award-winning Union Campus ED is located in Union, NJ. It operates 24/7, offering emergency and advanced cardiovascular care, comprehensive stroke care, on-site lab and radiology services, and community outreach referrals.

Cody Legler, Atlantic Health's senior vice president and system chief nursing executive, called the Union Campus streak "unprecedented" and said the recognition across three Atlantic Health emergency departments reflects "the extraordinary care our teams provide to tens of thousands of patients each year."

Two other Atlantic Health EDs also won in this cycle. Morristown Medical Center's Sameth Emergency Department earned its third Lantern Award; it treats more than 110,000 patients annually as a Level 1 Trauma Center. CentraState Medical Center's Emergency Department in Freehold received the award for a second consecutive cycle.

A record-breaking 126 emergency departments nationwide earned Lantern Awards in the 2026 cycle, according to the ENA. The three-year cycle means the next round of awards would fall in 2029.
