Summit-area runners, walkers, and their dogs can hit the trail for homeless animals at St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center's annual 5K-9 Run & Walk on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the nonprofit's Madison campus, 575 Woodland Ave.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and offers two distances: a 5K run or a 1-mile walk. Both are available with or without a dog. Registration is open through 9:45 a.m. on race day, and spots are limited, according to the event's RunSignUp page.
What it costs
Pricing varies by category:
- 5K run or 1-mile walk (no dog): $40
- 5K run or 1-mile walk (with dog): $50
- VIP entry (dog optional): $60
VIP registrants get a dedicated check-in and a t-shirt. The first 200 registrants overall receive a 2026 5K-9 t-shirt while supplies last. Participants bringing a dog must select the "Human & One Dog" entry option when registering.
What else is happening
The day includes a "Paint Your Pet" activity, according to St. Hubert's event page. Corporate sponsors for the 2026 race include Freshpet, Cuddly, and World's Best Cat Litter.
Proceeds benefit St. Hubert's shelter services for animals in need. The nonprofit has operated from its Woodland Avenue campus for more than 80 years, providing pet adoption, dog training, humane education, and community outreach programs.
