Three vehicles worth $139,000 stolen
Summit police are also investigating a string of vehicle thefts totaling about $139,000, according to Patch, which cited reporting by TAPinto Summit.
The most recent theft occurred Oct. 4 on Hillcrest Avenue. The Summit Police Department reported that a suspect arrived in a white SUV bearing Maryland registration 5GP8628, possibly a BMW, around 12:42 a.m. The SUV drove past the residence slowly, then reversed toward the driveway.
A suspect exited the SUV's rear passenger door and walked to the unlocked driver's side of a gray 2024 BMW M2 coupe, valued at $75,000. The suspect entered the car for about 10 seconds, left, then returned moments later. On the second attempt, the suspect tampered with the dashboard display, started the vehicle and drove away. Both vehicles left Summit shortly after.
Police described the suspect as wearing a black Nike hoodie, black sweatpants, a black face mask, black and green gloves and neon Nike Air Max 95 sneakers.
On Sept. 23, a 2019 Infiniti Q60 was stolen from a Morris Avenue business at about 2:52 a.m., according to the police department. Suspects arrived in a silver or gray Infiniti Q50, took the Q60 and also tried to access another vehicle on the lot but failed. Both vehicles were seen leaving Summit by 3:02 a.m.
The registration on the suspects' Q50 was not reported stolen and did not return to an Infiniti, police said.
A third vehicle, an Audi, was also reported stolen from a Morris Avenue lot, according to TAPinto Summit's reporting. Specific details on that theft were not available.
The department urged residents to lock all vehicle and residence doors, stay alert and report suspicious activity. Anyone with information on the thefts can contact the Summit Police Detective Bureau at 908-273-0051.
