Several Summit streets will close Sunday, Oct. 18, for the annual Bridges Outreach 5K, with delays expected in and around downtown from about 7:45 a.m. to 11 a.m.
A city traffic advisory warns drivers to allow extra travel time along the race route that morning. The advisory did not list specific streets affected by the closures.
The 5K run and walk starts at 9 a.m. at The Village Green in downtown Summit, according to the race's registration page. Check-in begins at 8 a.m., followed by a warm-up at 8:50 a.m. A kids' Fun Run around The Village Green starts at 9:30 a.m., and awards follow at 10 a.m.
Each 5K participant receives a t-shirt, race bib and post-race refreshments. A live DJ will be on-site throughout the morning. One water station is set up along the course. Strollers are allowed but organizers ask those with strollers to line up near the back of the field.
Bridges Outreach, founded in Summit nearly 40 years ago, works to prevent and end homelessness in Essex, Union and Somerset counties through street outreach and case management. According to the registration page, all proceeds go to those programs.
Registration costs $40 for the 5K and $10 for the kids' Fun Run. Race-day registration is $45. Parking is available on the street and in nearby municipal lots.
The event runs rain or shine.
Drivers who need to pass through downtown Summit that morning should plan alternate routes or build in extra time.
