Downtown Summit's sidewalks and pocket parks are filling with live music every Friday evening as Summit Street Sounds rolls through its fall run.
The free series, organized by Summit Downtown Inc., puts bands at six outdoor spots from 5 to 8 p.m. each Friday through Oct. 30.
The opening-night lineup on Sept. 4 included:
- Promenade (next to the fountain, 426 Springfield Ave.) — Storer Avenue Jazz Project
- Lyric Park (corner of Bank Street and Beechwood Road) — Mitch Germansky Full Disclosure
- Starbucks (corner of Union Place and Beechwood Road) — Itchy Ankle Boys
- Horse Trough (by Pizza Vita, 7 Union Place) — The DW Brothers
- Union Place (in front of Jamie's Shoe Repair) — Broke & Busted
- Maple Street (in front of Robot Revolution) — Don Lee
Several of those acts played the summer edition of Street Sounds, which ran Thursday and Friday evenings in June and July, according to TapInto Summit. The fall series shifts to Fridays only. Lineups rotate weekly.
SDI is adding a student performance track this fall. Students who want a slot at the Promenade stage can apply through SDI's website. Student Edition nights are scheduled for Sept. 25 and Oct. 30.
The series overlaps with another major downtown draw. SDI's Arts & Cars Festival returns Sunday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event features a juried outdoor art show organized by the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey on Springfield Avenue between Beechwood Road and Summit Avenue, plus a car show sponsored by Peotter's Autobody & Spa. The Sept. 18 Street Sounds and the Sept. 20 festival give downtown back-to-back event days that weekend.
No tickets or registration are needed for Street Sounds.
