Summit residents have nine polling locations, a ballot drop box and several early voting options ahead of the Tuesday, Nov. 3, general election.

Elections Administrator Nicole DiRado presented a voting update at the Sept. 22 Common Council meeting. The city's voting guide lays out every way Summit voters can cast a ballot.

Drop box moved

Summit's secure ballot drop box has a new home. The box relocated to the Summit Community Center at 100 Morris Avenue, according to the Union County Board of Elections. The drop box is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, monitored by camera and ADA-accessible. It will remain open until polls close at 8 p.m. on Nov. 3.

Vote by mail

The deadline to apply by mail for a vote-by-mail ballot is Tuesday, Oct. 27. Voters can apply in person at Union County Clerk's offices in Elizabeth or Westfield until Monday, Nov. 2, at 3 p.m.

Union County Deputy Clerk Clara Fernández said in an Oct. 6 press release that ballots have already been mailed to voters who previously requested them. Both clerk offices will also be open Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

New Jersey law requires vote-by-mail ballots to be postmarked on or before Election Day. County officials encourage voters to use a secure drop box rather than rely on postal delivery, because postmarks reflect when mail is processed, not when it is dropped off.

Early voting

Early in-person voting runs Saturday, Oct. 24, through Sunday, Nov. 1, at locations across Union County. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays, according to the county Board of Elections. Any registered Union County voter can use any site.

Nearby early voting sites include the Berkeley Heights Municipal Building at 29 Park Avenue and the DeCorso Community Center at 15 E. Fourth St. in New Providence.

Applicants must be registered Union County voters age 18 or older, though minors ages 16–17 may work up to eight hours. A mandatory training class is required.
