Summit Police closed a block of Morris Avenue between Broad Street and Maple Street on Thursday, July 9, with detours in place until approximately 4 p.m.

"Morris Ave. will be closed from Broad St. to Maple St. until approximately 1600 hours. Detours are in place. Expect delays," the Summit Police Department posted on its official Facebook page.

The department did not release a reason for the shutdown. Summit Police had not responded to requests for additional information as of Thursday afternoon, and the Patch news site, which confirmed the closure, reported no explanation from police either.

The affected block sits in Summit's central commercial district. The closure is separate from storm-related road shutdowns the city reported earlier in the week, including hard closures on Lowell Avenue and Broad Street at Springfield Avenue as of Sunday, July 6.
