New kickoff, new opponents, new coach — New Providence football is running out a whole new playbook this fall, and Pioneers fans have plenty to be fired up about.
The Pioneers will compete in the Patriot Silver Division of the Big Central Conference for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, according to Union News Daily, which published the full divisional breakdown Wednesday. Leading the charge from the sideline is first-year head coach Anthony Conzentino, who inherits a program stepping into a rugged six-team division that includes Perth Amboy and Spotswood.
This isn't just New Providence shuffling seats — it's a leaguewide shakeup. The Big Central Conference, one of New Jersey's largest high school football leagues, reshuffled most of its divisions for the next two seasons in a bid to level the playing field statewide.
For the Pioneers, that means venturing outside Union County for the first time in a while. Perth Amboy, a Group 4 powerhouse out of Middlesex County, and Spotswood, a scrappy Group 2 program also from Middlesex, hand New Providence a slate of cross-county matchups the Pioneers haven't traditionally seen under the lights.
Conzentino steps into the head job for his first season at the helm, and he's not easing in — he's walking straight into a division stacked with different school sizes and skill levels. Think of it as a trial by fire: win here, and the Pioneers prove they can hang with anybody on the schedule.
New Providence kicks off the 2026 season Thursday, Aug. 27. Get ready, Pioneers Nation — a new era of New Providence football starts soon.
