New Providence piled up 48 points before halftime and shut out Roselle 48-0 on Friday, Sept. 25, extending the Pioneers' unbeaten start to 4-0.

The offense produced 272 total yards, splitting nearly evenly between 185 on the ground and 87 through the air. Quarterback Kevin Reilly completed three of six passes for 84 yards and a touchdown, and added 27 rushing yards on three carries. His longest completion, a 61-yard strike to Quentin Moore, helped New Providence build a 26-0 first-quarter lead.

The Pioneers tacked on 22 more points in the second quarter to take a 48-0 advantage into the break. Neither team scored after halftime.

The ground game did most of the damage. New Providence ran for 185 yards on 30 carries, spreading touches across the roster. Caleb Gordon led all rushers with 62 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Charles Maneely punched in two scores on nine carries for 42 yards. Michael Schmidt added a five-yard touchdown run, and Joseph Espaillat contributed 33 yards on three carries.

Through the air, Moore hauled in two catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. Marty Naujokas grabbed two receptions for 21 yards and another score.

The win was New Providence's third league victory in as many tries. Through four games the Pioneers have outscored opponents 136-30, according to MaxPreps. Their season opened with a 27-7 win over Voorhees on Sept. 3, followed by a 27-20 road victory at Johnson on Sept. 10 and a 34-3 home win over Metuchen on Sept. 18.

Roselle dropped to 0-4 with the loss.

New Providence travels to Dayton on Friday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. The Pioneers host Governor Livingston on Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m.
