Summit's Haunted Hike returns to Martin's Brook Park Oct. 9

Summit's annual Haunted Hike returns to Martin's Brook Park on Friday, Oct. 9, with two sessions on the wooded trail off Butler Parkway.

The event, organized by the City of Summit's Department of Community Programs, splits the evening into a "less scary" hike for younger children from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a "super scary" hike from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The later session features spooky characters who jump out along the trail.

Entry is free. The city asks a suggested $5 donation.

Adult supervision is required for any child in fourth grade or younger, according to the city's event calendar.

What's different in 2026

The 2025 Haunted Hike ran across two nights, Saturday, Oct. 10 and Sunday, Oct. 11. The 2026 listing shows only Friday, Oct. 9. The city has not announced whether a second night will be added.

In 2025, the city closed Butler Parkway between Hartley Road and Canoe Brook Place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. during the event, with police directing traffic. No road closure notice has been posted for the 2026 hike. Residents on Butler Parkway may want to check summitcommunityprograms.com for updates closer to the event.
