New Providence residents have until 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, to set out nonperishable food for the annual Scouting for Food drive.

The New Providence Boy Scouts and the Community Service Association are partnering again to collect food and cash donations for local families and the Starfish Food Pantry during the Thanksgiving season, according to the November issue of New Providence NEWS.

Scouts will distribute yellow door hangers with collection details to New Providence homes starting the week of Nov. 14. Residents who want to participate should place clearly marked bags or boxes of donations outside their homes, visible from the street, by 8 a.m. Nov. 21.

Scouts will pick up the contributions and deliver them to Faith Lutheran Church for distribution.

The drive accepts canned fruit, vegetables, meat, tuna and soup, plus condiments, pasta sauce, rice, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, oatmeal, tea, coffee and Thanksgiving foods. All items must be nonperishable and unexpired.

Residents can also donate by check, payable to CSA of New Providence, mailed to 360 Elkwood Ave., New Providence, NJ 07974. A donation QR code will appear on the yellow door hangers.

The Community Service Association provides temporary, confidential financial assistance to New Providence residents experiencing hardship. Scouting for Food began in 1988 as a national Boy Scout initiative to address hunger in local communities.
