New Providence voters will choose their next mayor on Tuesday, Nov. 3, in a race between Republican incumbent Allen Morgan and Democratic Councilwoman Kathleen Dolan.

Results are pending and not yet available. Polls close at 8 p.m., and the Union County Clerk's office will post results on its election results page.

Morgan, the borough's current mayor, is seeking re-election, according to the New Jersey Globe. Dolan, a Democrat first elected to the borough council in 2024, is challenging him. Her council seat is not up for election until next year, the Globe reported.

Voters can cast one vote for mayor, according to NJ.com's Union County ballot guide. Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m., according to the ACLU of New Jersey's election guide.

Council control hangs in the balance

Two borough council seats are also on the Nov. 3 ballot. Republican Councilwoman Nadine Geoffroy is seeking re-election alongside Michael Pennisi, who is running to succeed retiring Councilwoman Lisa McKnight, the Globe reported. They face Democrats Johan Starr, director of technology at the NYU School of Law, and Tobias Rossmann, an associate professor at Lafayette College.

The stakes are high. The borough council is evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans, the Globe reported. A Democratic gain of one seat would give the party control of the governing body.

A shifting political landscape

New Providence has trended Democratic in recent top-of-ticket races. Kamala Harris carried the borough by 19 points in 2024, and Gov. Mikie Sherrill won it by 17 points in 2025, according to the Globe.

Union County records show the current council split: Republicans Morgan, Matthew Cumiskey, Geoffroy and Lisa McKnight hold four seats, while Democrats Dolan, Alan Lerner and Brian Gardner hold three. Cumiskey's and Dolan's terms run through 2027. Lerner's and Gardner's terms expire in 2028.

Geoffroy's and McKnight's seats expire this year, making them the two council seats on the ballot.

Residents can check the Union County Clerk's election results page after polls close at 8 p.m. on Nov. 3 for official tallies.
