Liz Skoler and Emily Seelaus, the Democratic candidates for Summit City Council in Wards 1 and 2, presented their platforms at the Rotary Club of Summit-New Providence on Oct. 26.

Skoler, the Ward 1 candidate, listed pedestrian safety, responsible development and fiscal responsibility as her top issues, according to the Rotary Club's event summary. The summary described her focus as listening to constituents and building consensus.

Skoler, a corporate communications lawyer and journalist for three decades, has lived in Summit since 2008.

Seelaus is running for the Ward 2 seat. Her priorities center on maintaining top-tier schools, responsible development, community safety, and fiscal transparency and responsibility, according to the club's summary. She grew up in Summit and has spent 30 years in middle school education.

The Rotary Club noted that the two candidates' platforms align closely.

A question-and-answer session followed the presentations. Topics included Summit's affordable housing mandate, infrastructure needs, environmental issues and civility in politics, according to the summary. Summit's city government is entirely volunteer-run, with council members serving without compensation.
