Florence Chapman scored three goals Wednesday, Sept. 16, as Summit High School's field hockey team routed Cranford 7-1, improving to 5-0 on the season.

The Hilltoppers, ranked No. 19 in the NJ.com statewide Top 20, dominated from the opening whistle.

Summit outshot Cranford 38-3.

Chapman, a junior midfielder, led the attack with her hat trick. Senior forward Torie Viscovich added two goals. Hayley Harrington-Sutton, a senior forward, chipped in a goal and an assist. Elena Deveau and Moira Darcy each scored once, according to NJ.com's game recap.

Freshman midfielder Reese Lysiak did not score but recorded two assists. Elizabeth Hoffman added one assist. Junior goalkeeper Aspen Ruschmeier needed just two saves to earn the win.

Cranford, which fell to 0-3-1, got its lone goal in the second period from Julianna Kolibas off Katie Connell's assist.

Summit's offensive depth has fueled the 5-0 start. Through Sept. 17, Lysiak leads the Essex-Union Conference with nine goals and 21 points, according to NJ.com's conference stats. Chapman has six goals and 20 points. Harrington-Sutton has six goals and 18 points.

Head coach Jennifer Schwarzenbek, now in her 19th season at Summit with a career record of 219-141-13, built this roster around eight returning starters and a talented freshman class. Before the season opener, she told NJ.com the squad would be ready for a demanding schedule.

"The girls have a great attitude, work well together, and will be ready to take on the challenge of a tough schedule," Schwarzenbek said in NJ.com's Sept. 2 preseason preview.

The schedule gets its biggest test Saturday, Sept. 19, when No. 19 Summit faces No. 18 Kent Place in Summit. Kent Place (3-1) is led by freshman Eloise Kincade, who has seven goals this season. NJ.com noted that both teams entered the week undefeated in Essex-Union Conference play. Kent Place's JV game follows at 3:30 p.m.
