Summit patrol officers found a 38-year-old Newark man unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle stopped in the roadway near Broad Street and Walnut Street on Aug. 6 at about 1:25 p.m., according to the Summit Police Department's activity blotter covering July 20 through Aug. 16.
The investigation led to a DWI arrest. The man was processed and released with a pending court date.
That incident was one of four DWI arrests during the period, all on major Summit roads.
Three additional DWI stops
On July 20 at about 9:19 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Broad Street near Cedar Street for traveling with no lights at a high rate of speed. A 20-year-old Summit man was arrested for DWI, issued additional motor vehicle summonses and released pending a Municipal Court appearance.
On July 24 at about 8:26 p.m., a 55-year-old Elizabeth man was stopped on Springfield Avenue near Middle Avenue for failing to yield to oncoming traffic. He was charged with DWI and arrested on several outstanding warrants, then released pending multiple court appearances.
On July 27 at about 10:18 p.m., a 27-year-old Millburn man was stopped on Morris Avenue near Springfield Avenue for an expired registration and subsequently arrested for DWI.
Assault, strangulation and threats
On Aug. 15 at about 12:32 p.m., a 29-year-old Summit man was arrested and charged with simple assault and strangulation. He was transported to Essex County Jail.
On July 28 at about 11:52 p.m., a 49-year-old Scotch Plains man was arrested for terroristic threats stemming from an incident earlier that evening. He was also transported to Essex County Jail.
Stolen vehicle investigation
On July 20, a 26-year-old man from the Bronx, N.Y., turned himself in to the Detective Bureau. He was charged with receiving a stolen vehicle, theft by deception, forgery and exhibiting false documents as proof of identification, then transported to Union County Jail pending a Superior Court appearance.
Theft and fraud
On Aug. 14 at about 1:49 p.m., a theft was reported at a River Road business. The victim placed personal belongings in an unsecured locker; an unknown female was later observed inside the locker. The victim then received fraud alerts for unauthorized transactions on her credit and debit cards. The Detective Bureau is investigating.
On July 31 at about 4:32 p.m., a 74-year-old Chatham man reported that a magnetized American flag was removed from the back of his vehicle at the Park and Shop Lot #1 on Deforest Avenue.
