The City of Summit's annual Doggy Dip returns to the Summit Family Aquatic Center on Saturday, Sept. 26. Online registration is open for three swim sessions divided by dog size.
The event at 100 Ashwood Ave. gives dogs the run of the pool before it closes for the season. Admission is $5 per dog for Summit residents and $10 per dog for non-residents, according to the city's event calendar. The event is open to both residents and non-residents.
Sessions run 45 minutes each, with a cap of 40 dogs per group:
- Small and medium dogs (under 40 pounds): 10 to 10:45 a.m.
- Large dogs (40 pounds and over): 11 to 11:45 a.m.
- Large dogs, second session: noon to 12:45 p.m.
The city recommends registering online with a credit card ahead of time. Walk-ins are welcome if space remains, but must pay cash. All participants must sign a waiver during online registration.
Every dog must be at least six months old, current on all vaccinations and wearing a valid license tag. At least one owner age 18 or older must accompany each dog. Any dog showing aggressive behavior will be asked to leave.
The pool is strictly for dogs. No human swimming is allowed, and the Summit Community Programs calendar notes that no spectators are permitted.
The Doggy Dip is a separate event from the Summit Area YMCA's Doggy Dip Fundraiser, which was held Sept. 19 at the Berkeley Heights Community Pool. The city's version carries its own fee structure and registration process, as Union News Daily reported.
