The Summit Summies are looking for their next generation of gymnasts as the competitive team celebrates a major milestone: 50 years of flipping, flying and competing.
The Connection's Summit Summies Competitive Gymnastics Team will hold tryouts and class placement evaluations Wednesday, July 29, at The Connection, 79 Maple St.
Four evaluation sessions are available:
- 3:45 p.m.
- 4:15 p.m.
- 4:45 p.m.
- 5:15 p.m.
The evaluations are open to gymnasts interested in joining the competitive team or finding the right training level based on age and experience.
The Summies compete through USA Gymnastics' Development and Xcel programs, with athletes ages 6 to 18 training between six and 16 hours each week. The program also serves as the training home for the Summit High School gymnastics team.
Senior Director of Gymnastics Leslie McPeek said the 50th anniversary is a celebration of the athletes, coaches, alumni and families who have helped build the program.
"We look forward to welcoming the next generation of gymnasts and continuing our tradition of excellence for years to come," McPeek said.
The Connection, a nonprofit that has served Summit for more than a century, operates the Summies' training facility on Maple Street.
