The debate over bringing more pickleball courts to Chatham isn't over yet.

The Minisink Club's proposal to replace two Har-Tru tennis courts with four pickleball courts will return to the Zoning Board of Adjustment on Wednesday, July 22 — but residents should not expect a final decision. The board has already scheduled the case for another special meeting on Aug. 18.

The application, filed by the private swim and racquet club at 1 Princeton St., has now been scheduled for six meeting dates since the board first heard the proposal in April. Previous hearings were delayed in May and June without a vote.

Minisink Club wants to convert two of its eight tennis courts into four pickleball courts. The club, founded in 1955, currently has tennis courts, paddle courts and three pools on its property.

The project requires zoning relief after the borough zoning officer denied the application. The club has submitted traffic, parking, drainage and noise studies as part of the review.

The July 22 meeting also includes three residential variance requests:

  • 189 Watchung Ave. — Matthew and Kathleen Mitchell are seeking relief for setbacks, building coverage and floor area ratio.
  • 30 Coleman Ave. East — Katherine and Robert Magrane are seeking side and front yard setback variances.
  • 218 Washington Ave. — Richard and Regina Nelson are seeking building and lot coverage variances.

The board will also formally approve resolutions for two previously decided cases.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at Borough Hall, 54 Fairmount Ave. The Minisink Club application is scheduled to return for a special meeting Tuesday, Aug. 18.
