Paving begins Thursday, Aug. 27, on 12 residential streets in New Providence, following milling work that started around Aug. 20.
The Borough published the three-day schedule on Wednesday, Aug. 26, giving residents on affected streets specific dates to move vehicles and plan for full road closures. Work runs Thursday and Thursday, Aug. 27–28, and picks up again Monday, Aug. 31.

What residents need to know
All vehicles must be removed from the work area by 6:30 a.m. on paving days. Unlike milling days, when roads reopened once machines passed, paving requires full street closures. Streets will not reopen until the new asphalt has cooled, and vehicles left in the work zone may not be accessible while crews are working.
Residents on affected streets should place garbage and recycling at the curb the night before their scheduled paving day.
The schedule is subject to change based on weather, contractor availability, and field conditions. The Borough's 2026 Road Paving project page will carry updates.
Background
Milling crews ground down the old road surface on the same 12 streets beginning around Aug. 20. The Borough announced that work in an Aug. 19 notice, but paving dates were listed as to-be-determined at the time. Wednesday's notice fills in those dates.
No cost figure for the 2026 paving program has been published in the Borough's notices. No Borough official is named in the announcement, and no next public meeting date related to the project appears in the notice.
The Borough asked for residents' patience as the work wraps up. All paving is scheduled to conclude Monday, Aug. 31.
