Dr. Winston Jackson will return as interim assistant principal at Governor Livingston High School for the 2026-27 school year, giving the Berkeley Heights school administrative continuity after a year of leadership turnover.

Berkeley Heights Public Schools announced the decision on Tuesday, Aug. 25, posting across its X, Instagram and Facebook accounts. Jackson first joined the district in April 2026, finishing out the school year after stepping into the role mid-year.

"I love the students, and I am grateful for the opportunity to begin and complete an entire school year with them in 2026–2027," Jackson said in the announcement.

The coming term will mark his first full academic year at GLHS.

The appointment adds stability to a building that has seen significant administrative change over the past eight months. Principal Robert B. Nixon left Governor Livingston in December 2025 after 13 years in the Berkeley Heights district to become principal of Millburn High School. Nixon had served first as assistant principal starting in 2012, then as principal beginning in 2015.

Principal Meg Berry joined GLHS at the end of January 2026 to succeed Nixon, according to a district newsletter. Jackson's arrival in April filled the assistant principal gap that followed, meaning the school's two top administrative posts both turned over within a five-month span.

With Jackson confirmed for a second year and Berry heading into her first full year as principal, the GLHS leadership team enters the fall with more settled footing than it had a year ago.

The district has not announced a timeline for filling the assistant principal role on a permanent basis or shared the next Board of Education meeting date for fall 2026.
