Summit families have a chance to shape the future of Memorial Playground.
The city is asking residents to complete an online survey by Friday, Aug. 1 as it plans a major redesign of the playground at Brayton School, 89 Tulip St.
The new concept would transform Memorial Playground into an athletic, obstacle course-inspired play space, giving it a different feel from the city's other playgrounds. The Brayton School PTO shared the survey in early July.
City officials have not yet announced a project budget or construction timeline, but feedback from the survey will help guide the final design.
The survey comes as Summit moves forward with a second playground project at the Community Center on Morris Avenue.
That playground, planned for children ages 2 to 5 near Lower Long Field and the Tiny Forest, will be funded entirely through grants, donations and nonprofit partnerships, with no taxpayer funding. Construction is expected to wrap up in late 2026.
Mayor Elizabeth Fagan called the project "an important investment in our community," noting the previous playground at Lower Long Field was removed more than 20 years ago and the area is "long overdue for a public play space that children can use before, during, and after school hours."
Residents can submit ideas for Memorial Playground by completing the city's online survey before Aug. 1.
