Drivers crossing Summit will need extra time this week as crews mill, pave and dig at 13 intersections citywide through Friday, July 17.
The most concentrated disruption hits Monday, July 13, and Tuesday, July 14, when milling and paving are scheduled on William Street, Sayre Street and Doremus Avenue between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., according to the city's weekly road work bulletin. Weather permitting, milling takes place Monday and fresh pavement goes down Tuesday.
Those three streets sit near downtown, so commuters heading to the train station or Route 24 should plan alternate routes during work hours.
Utility work across town
PSEG crews are the busiest presence this week, with work at six intersections running 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday:
- Beekman Road at High Street
- Blackburn Road at Oak Knoll Road
- Chatham Road at River Road
- Mountain Avenue at Elm Street
- Prospect Street at Tulip Street
- Silver Lake Drive at Plymouth Road
Other projects on the schedule Monday and Tuesday include Beechwood Road at Springfield Avenue (Tiffany Electric, 7 a.m.–3:30 p.m.), Canoe Brook Parkway at Bedford Road (Portofino, 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.), Canoe Brook Parkway near Iris Road (New Jersey American Water, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.) and Mount Vernon Avenue at Harvey Drive (AJM Contractors, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.).
Wednesday through Friday, the same utility intersections remain active but the milling and paving work wraps up.
The city said road closures and detours are possible at any of these locations. All schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change as utility companies update their plans.
