Gina's Tennis World is adding a third indoor court to its Berkeley Heights facility and marking the expansion with a free grand opening celebration on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 649 Springfield Ave.

The event is free and open to all ages.

Berkeley Heights Mayor Angie Devanney will cut the ribbon at 11 a.m. The new court also comes with a new sign facing Springfield Avenue. Owner Gina Genovese said she hopes it will put the club on the map for residents who never knew it was there.

"After being in business for 43 years in Berkeley Heights, I am so excited to have the opportunity to have more kids and adults learning to love the game of tennis," Genovese said in an event listing on Patch. "I still enjoy teaching even more than I did in 1983."

Genovese founded the club in 1983 after coming off the women's professional tennis tour. In the decades since, she has coached 25 nationally ranked junior players and taught students ages 5 to 80. In one year alone, 12 of her boys were ranked No. 1 on their respective high school teams. She is now teaching a second generation of students and works alongside Coach Wendy, who handles stringing and registration, and Coach Phil, who has been on staff for more than 10 years.

Guests at the grand opening can try HEAD demo rackets on ball machines from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with prizes for hitting targets. Throughout the day, visitors can pose with life-sized cutouts of Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. A raffle will give one winner the chance to take a cutout home.

Julia Jarvis, a student and player at the club for 22 years, described it as a place where everyone feels like family and called the expansion a chance for Genovese to share her gift with even more people.

The club is accessible by turning north off Springfield Avenue onto Passaic Avenue and taking the first ramp on the right; the entrance is in the middle of the parking lot. Fall 2026 clinic signups for juniors and adults are now open at ginastennisworld.com.
